Flush Casement

A traditional style window

A Brief History

Flush casement windows are characterised by openers that close into the frame and finish flush with the face of the window. Generally this type of window is found in properties that pre-date the 1950’s and were particularly popular through the 17th and 18th centuries.

Our challenge has been to make flush traditional casement windows which look simple and traditional but are actually quite sophisticated. Some details, like our decorative butt hinges, are merely to reinforce the illusion of simplicity. Hidden away is modern technology: warp resistant timber, locks which engage in multiple points around the perimeter of every opener, ventilation grooves, drainage channels and glazing units which lose approximately half the heat of ordinary double glazing.

SECURITY

Internally glazed frames mean the units cannot be removed from the outside of the property. Our flush casement windows have a fully integrated locking system that provides 4 points of locking for maximum security and weather tightness.

OPTIONS

Our flush casements are all made bespoke, which means you can have them pretty much any size and in any configuration. We also offer our conservation window with a floating mullion, this means there is no fixed mullion (vertical divide) down the centre which results in less frame and more light. You can also open both panes as you would with a French door to give maximum ventilation and fire escape space. This is a particularly popular window in properties that have rather small windows to allow more light to pass through.

You can choose from lots of colours and a number of stained finishes and can have a different finish inside to outside. Like all our products we offer this range in Softwood, Hardwood, PVC and Aluminium.

Stormproof Casement

A style suited to homes built 1950's onwards

A Brief History

Stormproof Casement windows feature rebated openers which lip over the front face of the window frame. Their place in British fenestration can be traced back to the 1950’s when modern production systems demanded a window with greater tolerances that could be manufactured economically in volume.

Many modern timber window systems, as well as most PVCu and aluminium replacement windows, are modelled on the stormproof casement design and as such ‘stormproof’ windows have become a familiar feature in British homes.

SECURITY

Internally glazed frames mean the units cannot be removed from the outside of the property. Our stormproof casement windows have a fully integrated perimeter locking system – which in English means it has a concealed locking system that wraps around the whole opening window and locks in 5 positions for maximum security and weather tightness.

OPTIONS

Our stormproof casement windows are all made bespoke, which means you can have them pretty much any size and in any configuration. We also offer a floating mullion, this means there is no fixed mullion (vertical divide) down the centre which results in a window that works as French doors allowing you to open the full space.

You can choose from lots of colours and a number of stained effect finishes and can have a different finish inside to outside. Like all our products we offer this range in Softwood, Hardwood, Oak, PVC and Aluminium.

We can offer special security glazing as well as acoustic glass.

Sash windows

Traditionally weighted and maxium insulation

A Brief History

Invented in the mid 17th century in London, the humble sash window went on to transform British architecture throughout the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian era’s. The elegant proportions and slim sightlines form the most beautiful and efficient window style history has produced. Despite their beauty, sash windows have always been plagued with maintenance problems such as rot, swelling or warping of the woodwork, rattling in the wind due to shrinkage in the timber, and problems brought on by careless application of paint. The sliding mechanism of sash windows makes them more vulnerable to these problems than traditional casement windows.

Our aim was to design a sliding sash window that wouldn’t rot, warp or swell, that would be weather rated to the same standard as our casement window with industry leading insulation values whilst keeping the character and charm that we’ve all come to love about the sash window.

As with all of our windows and doors, our sash windows are manufactured to combat any movement, each opener has 4 full wrap-around seals that are concealed out of sight to stop draughts and rattles. To carry the extra weight of double glazing we use a chain system similar to the method used in some Georgian sash windows, this solves the problem of stretching and snapping of cords. We are able to offer a range of bar sizes down to 18mm to match the most slender of designs.

Throughout our timber range, the acrylic based microporous paint provides maximum protection whilst letting the wood breath, this means we can offer an insurance backed guarantee covering the paint finish for 8 years.

Our slim sash is the thinnest double glazed, traditionally weighted sash window on the market, which means it can replace that of the original perfectly without affecting the internal architrave and decoration.

SECURITY

As with all of our windows and doors, our sash windows are internally glazed to prevent the glass being removed from outside. Our sash windows are fitted with 2 traditional fitch catches which are key lockable for insurance approval. We can install a limit stop set to any height which allows ventilation in a secure position.
