What is an Orangery?

With glass manufacturers beginning to produce panes on a large scale in the 17th/18th century, they were immediately utilized in creating large glazed buildings as were found in 17th century Holland. This allowed the wealthy landowners to grow warm-weather plants all year round, protecting them from cold Northern European winters.

What is the difference between a Conservatory & an Orangery?

Unlike conservatories which are built with walls entirely of glass, an orangery has side elevations partly constructed from hardwood (engineered timber) or oak or stone, and are more part of the home structure. They include a glazed roof, or roof lantern.

Our orangeries are permanent structures sympathetic to their surroundings, perfectly complementing the house and really allowing your garden to be enjoyed. Incorporating sliding or bi-folding doors and roof lights / lanterns create bright spaces that can be opened up or closed off depending on need and weather. The roof lights/lanterns ensure the room is bright and airy, flooding the room with natural sunlight and also provides a wonderful window on the night sky.

Why an Orangery?

Not only will an orangery of a high standard and quality as ours add monetary value to your home, our orangeries are perfect solution to transform your home, be it a new build or a listed building - or anywhere in between. Home expansions and extensions we build to last a lifetime, our exceptional standard of design and build and thorough wood treatments ensure they are maintenance free for years to come. Create a unique living space that will be enjoyed by the whole family for years to come, home improvements in every sense.
